I didn't start My Curious Child just to teach Maths. I started it because I wanted parents to see what I eventually saw: Children are natural learners. They already love to learn. They just need the right way in.

I'm Jiamin, and together with my co-founder Daphne — two mothers, two home educators — we built this around a question we couldn't put down:

What is the true value of education?

Is it simply the chasing of grades?

Or is it protecting the curiosity a child already walks in with, and giving it somewhere to go?

I'd seen what happens when learning becomes all drills and grade anxiety. I did it to my own daughter. I loved Maths growing up, so I assumed she would too — she just needed a bit more practice. So I pushed. Flashcards, drills, repetition. She started to dread the one subject I'd always loved.

It took me a while to see what was actually going on. She hadn't lost her love of learning. I was just handing it to her in a way that buried it.

It was never about how good I was at Maths. It was about whether she had a story to hold onto, a character to root for, a moment she could picture herself in.

Once that changed, her curiosity came right back — it had been there the whole time.

So Daphne and I built something different:

Books so good that children ask to read them again and again.

Where Maths isn't a school subject sitting inside the story — it's a tool the characters actually use.

And where every adventure also teaches something about kindness, courage, or growing up well.

That's Curious Little Critters Maths Adventures. And it's what everything we make at My Curious Child is built to do.

I believe how a child learns matters as much as what they learn — and that no child needs to be taught to love learning. They just need us to stop getting in the way.
