What makes Curious Little Critters books different from others?

Every book in our series embeds a real learning concept inside a story your child can see themselves in. Alongside that concept - whether it is maths, science, or a social-emotional theme - is a values lesson woven into the adventure itself, not added as a moral at the end.

The result is a book children want to read again and again. And every re-read quietly deepens the understanding.

P.S They are recommended by Dr. Darren Yeo, Associate Professor of Psychology at NTU and co-author of MOE Maths Textbook My Pals Are Here!

Is this a curriculum resource or just a storybook?

It is an educational supplement, and a deliberately focused one!

The Curious Little Critters Maths Adventures series introduces selected foundational maths concepts drawn from Singapore's early childhood mathematics framework: sorting and classifying, patterns, shapes, counting, etc. It covers key maths topics that lend themselves best to story, so that children build a genuine love of maths alongside the concepts themselves.

Each concept is delivered through story rather than drills, which means children engage with it before they know they are learning. And alongside every maths concept is a social-emotional theme - gratitude, kindness, bravery, resilience -woven into the narrative as the story itself, not added as a lesson at the end.

Think of it as the book that makes your child excited about the concept before they meet it formally in school!

Will these books conflict with what my child is learning at school?

No. These books are designed to work alongside school learning, not replace it!

As an educational supplement, the series does not aim to cover your child's full preschool maths curriculum. What it does is build something the classroom rarely has time for - a genuine love of maths, and the story that makes a concept feel real and worth caring about. Children who have met a concept through Rummy, Blossom, and Kai often recognise it in class with a familiarity and warmth that gives them a confident head start!

What age are the books suitable for?

Our books are designed for children aged 3-8, covering preschool through early primary school. Each story allows children to discover and learn at their own pace. Younger children get gentle, playful exposure to foundational concepts, while older children build understanding they can connect to what they are learning in school.

We recommend starting from the beginning of the series even if some concepts feel simple for your child's current age. The goal is not just to learn the concept, it is to build a positive, confident relationship with learning from the very start!

What is the difference between the storybook and the activity book?

Each title in the series comes in two formats. The storybook tells the full Curious Little Critters adventure, with question prompts to spark conversation as you read together. The activity book accompanies the same story with 30 hands-on activities - board games, origami, crafts, colouring, mazes, sticker activities, movement games, and pretend play - all reinforcing the same maths concept through play.

Both work as standalones, but they are designed to complement each other. The story creates the understanding. The activities make it stick!

Do I need to buy the books in order?

No, each book works as a standalone. That said, the series is designed to build mathematical concepts progressively from Book 1 through to Book 12 (last 3 sets to be launched in 2027!), so reading in sequence gives your child the most complete journey alongside Rummy, Blossom, and Kai. A suggested reading order is on our series page.

How can I introduce the books to my child?

Simply start by reading the storybook together, no lesson plan needed! Ask questions, enjoy the funny moments, and let Rummy, Blossom, and Kai lead the way. Once your child is ready, explore the activities in the Play & Learn book at their own pace. Over time you will notice your child naturally beginning to connect what they read to what they see around them. That is the learning working. ;)

How can parents use these books at home?

Each storybook includes conversation prompts, and each activity book includes family games and activities designed for parents to enjoy with their children. You do not need to teach - simply read, play, and explore together. The materials do the work. Your job is to be present and curious alongside your child. <3

How do I know if my child is learning?

When your child asks questions, shows curiosity, or becomes deeply engaged...that is learning in action! When they spot a pattern on the kitchen tiles, count the fruit at the market, or notice how a character in the story is feeling, that is the concept becoming theirs. We do not measure success by worksheets completed but by confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of figuring things out. That is the foundation for everything that follows.

My child keeps asking to re-read the same book. Is that normal?

Not only is it normal, it is exactly what the books are designed for! Every re-read reinforces the maths concept naturally, without your child realising it. The story is good enough to demand repetition. The learning compounds quietly every time. So when they ask for it again, remember to say yes!
